The SAM Centre will shortly be offering a one year part-time Post-graduate Certificate in Media Social Entrepreneurship, which we hope will be accredited through a regional Institute of Technology, and a range of shorter full-time Social Response Courses in partnership with various rural Donegal social action and community development groups.
The Post-graduate Certificate will be a programme to help create and inspire more Irish social entrepreneurs, who will benefit from collaborating with skilled media practitioners, and learning to use the extensive skills of media production in their work. The potential candidates for this will be passionate, motivated people already working in social entrepreneurship, or people wishing to begin work in this area, who have a developed social entrepreneurship idea.
By bringing in expert tutors from Ireland and around the world, we will offer multi-faceted theoretical and practical training within the changing world of media, and we will help foster the creative impulse and passion in social entrepreneurs and provide them with additional skills to realize their projects. This certificate programme will be offered to both graduates and non-graduates (with life/work experience), and will take place over 3 or 4 long-weekends between September 2011 and June 2012.
The Social Response courses will be many and varied, and will be designed in consultation with relevant community and social action groups in Donegal, who have identified social problems in their communities, and require specific skills to work with and solve these problems. The Social Response courses will provide the skills and confidence to enable the community group members to create documentaries, radio programmes, new media pieces, information videos, etc that help to address and solve the identified problems in their communities.
